Optimization Prerequisites

To use marketing optimization, SAS Customer Intelligence 360 must be to communicate with on-premises SAS software in order to send and receive data. This communication occurs through an optimize agent, which facilitates data transmission from your on-premises systems to SAS Customer Intelligence 360.

Before you can create an optimization input data and associated optimization scenarios, complete these steps:

  1. Make sure that the required on-premises components of SAS 360 Optimize are installed on premises. If you have an existing installation of SAS Marketing Optimization, you might want to install SAS 360 Optimize with the SAS Marketing Optimization Server at your site.
  2. If you are responsible for input data, make sure that you have been assigned the Input Data Designer role by your administrator. For more information, see Assign User Roles.
  3. Configure an optimize access point.
  4. Install an optimize agent on your on-premises server.
  5. Create a set of input data tables that contain your source data. For more information about the tables and their requirements, see Input Data Tables for SAS 360 Optimize.
Note: Be aware of the following guidelines:
    • Input data tables must be created using UTF-8 encoding.
    • The set of input tables should include only tables that comply with the requirements in Input Data Tables for SAS 360 Optimize. If you include tables that do not meet these requirements, there could be unexpected behavior. For example, if your tables are physical SAS datasets that are organized under a file system directory that is used as a Base SAS Library, youneed to ensure that the directory includes only Optimize tables.
  6. From the SAS deployment on your on-premises server, use the SAS Management Console to create a SAS Library that references the input data tables that are created in the previous step.
    • Libraries that are created in SAS Management Console must have specific server assignments, extended attributes, and authorization settings in order to work with optimization features in SAS Customer Intelligence 360.
    • All of the tables in the library must have authorization settings for them to work with SAS Customer Intelligence 360. You can use folders for the libraries to make this much easier.
    • Do not register any table with the SAS Library if the format and content does not comply with what is specified in Input Data Tables for SAS 360 Optimize. See the note in the previous step.

For more information about the requirements that make the SAS Library available to SAS Customer Intelligence 360, see these topics:

  7. Create the optimization input data using the SAS Library that you created in the previous step. Create optimization scenarios from the optimization input data. For more information about creating optimization input data and optimization scenarios, see Optimizing Marketing Data in SAS Customer Intelligence 360: User’s Guide.
